Belmont Bay has been voted as the best fish and chip shop in London after being the only London-based shop to reach the top 20 for the entire United Kingdom.
Twenty fish and chip shops get shortlisted from 10 regions, they are the only shop in London on the list of twenty. They will find out within the next few days if they will go to the top 10 for the ‘finals’.
We spoke with Belmont Bay owner John Ioannou who said “it makes it extra special as this is decided by the governing body of our business – the National Fish Fryers Federation.” Shops are judged on not only the quality of their fish and chips, but also customer service skills, quality of products and equipment and even the shops marketing skills.
Belmont Bay has been established in Belmont Circle since 2004, it was previously known as ‘Andy’s Fish Bar’ and has been a fish and chip shop for over 25 years.
Some of the reasons that help Belmont Bay stand out of the crowd include their sourcing policy, they tell customers where the fish come from right down to the very boat. They also tell customers which farm their potatoes are grown on so everyone is clear on where the food is sourced.
They also do a great deal to support the local community in Harrow, they are shirt sponsors of local football team St Joseph’s Youth FC, and also donate money to local children’s charities.
John goes on to say: “the most important reason for our success is the team. They have the perfect blend of youth and more experienced senior staff meaning that the balance of the team is perfect”.
We would like to wish John and the Belmont Bay team luck as they head towards the finals and would encourage everyone reading this to head down to the shop and try their delicious food!.
