A man has been arrested by police after scamming residents in Rayners Lane and Pinner asking for sponsorship money.
The man was knocking on doors claiming that he was doing a sponsored cycle ride which lead to many people reporting him to the police. He was telling people that his name was “Sam” and was presumably doing the sponsored cycle ride for charity.
Rayners Lane Police (MPS Rayners Lane) tweeted the below today at 10:04am: “A man using the name “Sam” has been knocking on doors all around Rayners Lane and Pinner and asking for sponsorship money for a cycle ride. It’s a SCAM and he has been arrested. Thank you for all your reports. If you’re not signed up to OWL.com please do so.”
This follows an incident last month that saw a man posing as a policemen knocking on doors within the South Harrow area. In addition, police in Kenton issued a warning earlier this week about fraudsters approaching cars in traffic telling drivers they owed money for speeding tickets. MPS Kenton tweeted: “FRAUD ALERT Report of person/s in Kenton area stopping drivers and telling them they have been “flashed” by a Police camera or have been given a parking ticket and asking the driver to go to a nearby cash point to withdraw money. DO NOT do this or give them any money.”
