Major power cut in Harrow as nearly 3000 homes black out

There has been a major power cut in Harrow Weald this evening.

Messages sent in to us included: “I’m in the dark!!! I’m not sure what’s happening, there is a power cut down my road and every house is blacked out.”

Another said: “This power cut is lasting much longer than I have ever experienced, does anyone know what’s going on? This is not acceptable as I have two young children and it’s really cold tonight. Not impressed by this at all”.

The power cut has been caused by an underground network fault that affected nearly 3000 properties. Initially, most of the homes experienced a short outage with the longest reported at around 20 minutes. However 660 customers were left without power for over two hours in total. The power was estimated by UK Power Networks to come back on between 8:30pm – 9:30pm although they said it might be delayed.

Morrison’s in Hatch End also lost power and all customers had to leave the store due to the blackout. Engineers worked tirelessly on the issue to get the power back up.

A message received from UK Power Networks confirmed: “Power cut alert from UK Power Networks. We’re aware of a potential unplanned power cut affecting your area. Our reference is INCD-33147-C. If your power’s off you can keep updated by texting POWER and your postcode to 80876 e.g.

Power was eventually restored at just after 9:30pm. Many people had contacted Harrow Online with complaints and concerns about the outage.
