Pinner View church undergoing restoration costing over £500,000

Covered by scaffolding since last summer, the beautiful St George’s, Headstone, in Pinner View, is undergoing an 11 month major programme of works it has been revealed.

St George’s vicar, Stephen Keeble, comments ‘Although Jesus said that in his Father’s house were many mansions, local rumours that the building is being converted into luxury apartments are without foundation’.

The programme of works, costing more than half a million pounds excluding VAT, involves the complete re-tiling of the roof, the repair and or replacement of bricks, stone parapets, gutters, drainpipes and flashing, the re-pointing of bricks and stone, and a good deal of internal re-plastering and painting.

‘Regular services are continuing at the church’, says Father Keeble, ‘and It is expected that the completed work will be signed off on 23 April – St George’s Day – when the Harrow Concert Band will kick off the Harrow Music Festival.

The Festival runs from 23 to 26 April and also features Punita Gupta’s celebration of the centenary of sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, English folk music’s leading singer and fiddler Eliza Carthy MBE, and Festal Evensong with St George’s professional and scholarship choir.
