A volunteer action group based in Alperton is appealing to all restaurants and eateries in Harrow to donate food to hospitals to help staff through the coronavirus pandemic.
The ‘Covid Response Kitchen’ group consists of 20 volunteers which is growing each day. The group was started by Daksha Varsani and initially had five volunteers, the group is now growing and momentum is gathering. The group work from their main working base at Desi Dhaba in Alperton. Desi have have kindly let them use their space and have been paying their staff to support the running of the kitchen.
The group has been preparing hundreds of free meals daily for NHS staff daily as they battle through the COVID-19 crisis.
“In this time of national crisis with the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to support our brave & hardworking NHS employees and other vulnerable groups by providing them with fresh, home cooked lunches. It’s our way to thank you to the NHS staff” say the team.
Covid Response Kitchen are appealing to all Harrow-based restaurants to donate their food to this worthy cause, they are also looking for volunteers to deliver food to the hospitals they’re working with.
The group are are now delivering to hospitals all over London including Northwick Park, Central Middlesex, Barnet, Luton, Newham and the new hosptial opening in the Excel Centre.
Whilst the group have been preparing and delivering around 1000 hot meals, sandwiches and snack packs each day to hospitals, they need more donations. Even local shops can donate food items if they wish.
