‘McMadness’ predicted as study Identifies Harrow Drive-Thru as one of the busiest in the country

McDonald’s has announced that all of its drive-thrus will begin opening from Thursday 4th June, after a two month hiatus but a new study has revealed drive-thrus in the Harrow – HA area will be some of the UK’s busiest.

Using new DVLA data detailing car registrations across the UK and data from the McDonald’s store checker, Marmalade, a leading provider of insurance and cars for young drivers, was able to predict the busiest drive-thrus calculating the amount of cars with the potential to visit UK drive-thrus.

The drive-thrus in Harrow (HA) postal area which are expected to be the busiest in the country, include:

  • Shaftesbury Cir, South Harrow, Harrow HA2 0AG
  • 154 Stonegrove, Edgware HA8 8AF
  • 126 Wembley Park Dr, Wembley Park, Wembley HA9 8TS

Set to experience the biggest ‘McFlurry’ is Dorchester in Dorset – expected to be inundated with people hungry for a Big Mac, with 123,909 vehicles that could turn up to its one drive-thru in the Dorchester (DT) postal area.

The top ten busiest drive-thrus can be found below, with the full top 20 here.

Commenting on the figures, CEO, Crispin Moger from Marmalade which conducted the research, said: “While we have all missed the wonders of the golden arches, there is a real risk in rushing out to a drive-thru when they reopen.

“If you are in one of the areas that our study has predicted as being busy then I would recommend holding off and avoiding the rush, particularly if you are a new or learner driver, as we’ve all seen the chaos from other fast food chains opening across social media.

“It is likely that the chance of an accident is increased as people may behave more erratically and rush to get there first, not to mention patience wearing thin in a queue.

“But, if you do decide you can’t resist – remember the rules of the road still apply – so avoid blocking roads and roundabouts while queuing, don’t be tempted to use your phone while waiting and dispose of the rubbish responsibly.”

McDonald’s in South Harrow is 10th on the list.

In a statement from Kurt Jansen, Franchisee said: “We’re very excited to be opening again in Harrow. With our restaurant teams adjusting to new procedures to enable safe working and social distancing, things may take a little longer. We will be running a reduced menu for now and spending caps at £25 to help manage the flow of customers. McDelivery is also available for customers in Harrow if they prefer not to drive.

“Over the past few weeks, we have been working with the local authorities and police to ensure we’re as ready as we can be to reopen safely, and we will be monitoring the traffic situation on the ground to ensure they aren’t any issues in the local area.

“Thank you for your continued patience and we look forward to seeing you soon”.

However it isn’t all doom and gloom, your luck is in if you live in East Central London, with just 6,477 vehicles to compete with at your nearest drive-thru.

While the residents up north in Sunderland will be pleased to take the top spot of quietest drive-thrus outside of London, with 16,785 vehicles to compete with at each location.

The full top 20 locations predicted to be the busiest and quietest over the next few weeks, as well as the full list can be found here.
