James May makes surprise appearance as delivery driver for Harrow food hub

At London’s Community Kitchen no two days are ever the same. Being a centralised Harrow food hub, their base in Christchurch Avenue is always bustling with activity.

In an average week, they receive anything from 18 to 22 tons of food that they sort and distribute to Harrow residents and beyond. So, it was a pleasant surprise for them when they started unloading a delivery from the Felix Project one morning only to find that the driver helping was the one and only, Grand Tour presenter and car enthusiast, James May.

Surprise! James May shows up as a delivery driver.

The Felix Project is a partner organisation with London’s Community Kitchen, helping to feed London by distributing food supplies as well as cooked meals. James chose to come to Harrow and spend the Friday afternoon with staff. He was shocked at the sheer volume of people who were in need of their help and at how the community had come together during these unprecedented times with plenty of momentum to continue going week on week.

Giving a helping hand!

It was their pleasure to invite James in to London’s Community Kitchen for a tour of the project and to meet some of the dedicated volunteers. He was happy to take pictures and set aside a moment to talk to the volunteers. His presence lifted spirits and reminded them that volunteers can come from truly anywhere. In the words of James May, “Harrow Rocks”!

Delivering the goods: London’s Community Kitchen

London’s Community Kitchen say they hope to welcome James May back soon – James said that he would return with a ‘special friend’ next time.
