Hillingdon Hospital has been forced to close departments including A&E after a coronavirus outbreak it has been revealed. Approximately 70 members of staff are now self-isolating following the discovery.
A spokesperson for Hillingdon Hospital Trust said: “An outbreak of Covid-19 was declared on Friday July 3, 2020.
“As of Tuesday July 7, 70 members of staff are now isolating, a number of whom have tested positive for Covid-19.
“As a result, the Trust has taken the precautionary decision to close Hillingdon Hospital to emergency ambulances and emergency admissions.
“The Trust is managing the outbreak in line with Public Health England guidance.”
The hospital has been diverting ambulances away to nearby hospitals, Northwick Park is just a few miles away. The hospital treats patients from Ruislip and Uxbridge.
Hillingdon Police re-tweeted: “Face coverings help stop the spread of #coronavirus. Everyone who can must wear a face covering when using public transport. Some people are exempt from this rule, including: young children, people with breathing difficulties, people living with a disability”
It is believed that other departments in the hospital, including walk-in and maternity are to remain open at this stage.
