Northwick Park doctors race to beat Covid-19

Intensive care doctors are holding a virtual race from London to Lombardy in solidarity with Italian colleagues working in what was the worst-hit region in Italy.

London2Lombardy will raise money for the charity ICUsteps which supports patients recovering from Covid-19

Medics from Northwick Park are encouraging as many people as possible to join them on  the 1,300km race with individuals pledging to step, walk or run as far as possible on August 1-2.

Northwick Park was one of the hardest-hit hospitals in the UK during the first wave while Lombardy was Italy’s worst-hit region with 87,000 cases of Covid-19 and more than 16,000 deaths.

Sign up for the 1,300km race via www.london2lombardy.com and pledge some distance to get involved. All you need is a smartphone with the free Strava GPS App which tracks distances.

See www.strava.com/clubs/london2lombardy-674020 for more details.

All individual runs and walks will then be added together to reach a total distance of 1.300km – the distance between London and Lombardy

Sarah Bury, an intensive care doctor who is also coordinating the fundraising race, said: “There are so many people recovering from Covid-19 who need help. Many of our patients will take months to rehabilitate. The support that ICUsteps can offer them during this period is crucial.”
