A HUGE mural of George Michael is going to be painted in Kingsbury

A HUGE mural of pop superstar George Michael is to be painted Kingsbury as a fitting tribute in the area where he grew up.

Dawn Mellor, a famous British artist has been commissioned to create the painting of the former wham singer it has been revealed. The mural will be 9-metres and is part of Brent’s celebration as London Borough of Culture this year.

The BBC has said that artwork will be unveiled next month on Kingsbury Road, the reveal date is slated to be 19 September.

George Michael, (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou), was the son of a Greek Cypriot restaurateur who emigrated to Britain in the 1950s.

George made his name with pop group Wham! in the 1980s and went on to enjoy huge success as a solo performer with hits like Careless Whisper and Fast Love.

In April 2018, George Michael’s life and career were honoured by Bushey Meads High School with a blue plaque during a ceremony

Sadly, he died on Christmas Day 2016 at the age of 53, at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.
