Harrow Church Seeking Choral Scholars

With the easing of Government Covid-19 restrictions many churches, like St George’s Headstone, Pinner View, Harrow, have been welcoming back their choirs. Untypically, the choir at St George’s – the St George’s Camerata – is a professional and scholarship ensemble

Comprising four professional singers and four choral scholars, the Camerata is one of the finest church choirs in suburban London. The octet helps lead the Sunday morning service at 11.00am, conducted according to the Church of England’s traditional Book of Common Prayer.

St George’s church is a lofty, wellappointed building with a superb acoustic for music. It has an exceptional Steinway concert grand piano – formerly at LSO St Luke’s, and its distinguished three-manual organ by Frederick Rothwell is included in the British Institute of Organ Studies’ register of historic instruments of importance to the national heritage.

From 1st October St George’s is looking to appoint new soprano, alto and tenor scholars (Year 10 to university age), as three of the current scholars are leaving, all to read Music Sebastian Clifford-Varley at Royal Holloway on a scholarship, Alessandra Douglas at Durham, and Claire Gordon-Brown at Oxford.

‘The experience of singing alongside the choir’s professionals is invaluable’ says Huw Jones, St George’s Director of Music, and a good weekly fee is paid. For more information or to express an interest in these positions contact huwjones1981@hotmail.com
