Man aged in his 80s injured in Harrow Town Centre after alleged shoplifting incident

A man aged in his 80s and a security guard were injured in Harrow Town Centre today after a woman allegedly shoplifted from Card Factory and fled the scene in a car. 

Footage obtained by Harrow Online shows police in attendance and members of the public looking on in horror as the elderly man received treatment from London Ambulance Service following the incident. Onlookers initially claimed that the woman had struck the man with the vehicle but police have confirmed that he fell over near the car.

An eye witness told Harrow Online: “A young lady had stolen from Card Factory, they went into their car near Harry’s Cafe trying to get away from 2 security guards who tried to stop her. She knocked one security with her car and drove quickly around the second guard.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to Havelock Place, Harrow, at 14.45hrs on Saturday, 5 September to reports of a road traffic collision.

“Officers attended. It was reported that a woman had been chased by shop security after she is alleged to have shoplifted.

“The woman got into a car which then drove away from the scene.

“A member of shop security was injured as he tried to stop the woman from getting into the car. A man, in his 80s, was also injured after he fell on the pavement near to the car. His injuries were not caused by the car.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”
