The car park at the Viewpoint on Old Redding has had to be closed again after a selfish few once again have targeted the site for anti–social behavior.
The car park was reopened this month with safety signs and a reduced area following tireless work with the Metropolitan Police to tackle those who might go to the site and make trouble.
People have been recklessly breaking through the barriers at the wet and muddy site making it extremely hazardous, so we must take action.
The car park was closed in September as it had become a haunt for anti-social behaviour and cars driving onto grassed areas damaging the site.
Once again, the return of some intent on destruction has meant the area must be closed for safety reasons. This is especially the case in the current time as patrolling the car park would divert valuable resources away from engagement and enforcement of Tier 4 coronavirus rules.
Cllr Varsha Parmar, Environment Portfolio Holder, said: “I am bitterly disappointed that the actions of a selfish few have ruined the enjoyment of Old Redding for those who may have wanted to use the site for its intended purpose over the festive period.
“But it is vital we take this action as the behavior of some have meant the site could be potentially unsafe. The scale of the anti-social behavior, damage and thoughtlessness has meant that, for safety reasons, we have no alternative but to close the site again.”
The improvement works will resume in the New Year.
