Harrow Council offering cash prizes for ‘Go Green 2021’ competition

The brandnew Harrow Go Green competition is open to residents, schools, colleges, allotment holders and developers aims to increase biodiversity in the Borough.

Hosted by Harrow Biodiversity and Environment, in partnership with Harrow Council, the scheme aims to raise awareness about the ways in which we can all contribute to improving the biodiversity and environment of the Borough, no matter how small a contribution that we make.

Entrants should think about projects that they could enter, whether planned for this year or existing projects.

All applications are online and further details and links to the application portal can be found on the competition website.

Applications can be submitted any time up to and including 30 June 2021.

Harrow Council is providing cash prizes for each category and there are also prizes from a number of sponsors.

From leaving part of your garden to nature to building a blue or green roof on buildings, there are many ways in which we can support nature and wildlife in our towns and cities. Gardens are incredibly valuable resources as are parks and street verges.

The categories are:

1. Pre-schools & Nurseries
2. Primary Schools
3. Secondary Schools & Colleges
4. Best Front Space
5. Junior Project (i.e. nonschool), up to 16 years of age
6. Best Garden Managed for Nature
7. Commercial Projects & Developers

8. Most Original Idea to Enhance Biodiversity

Cllr Varsha Parmar, Environment Portfolio Holder, said: “This is a great initiative, which will help to increase biodiversity and improve the environment in the Borough.

“It will also raise that all-important awareness that everyone can make a contribution, no matter how small.

“Harrow Council has declared a climate emergency and it is vital that we make every effort to improve our environment.”

You can enter more than one category. So, get planning and let us share our ideas and tips so that we can improve our environment.
