Christmas restrictions are needed in England to stop hospital admissions reaching a whopping 3,000 per day it has been reported.
Minutes from Sage and posted by the BBC, says: “If the aim is to reduce the levels of infection in the population and prevent hospitalisations reaching these levels, more stringent measures would need to be implemented very soon.”
They added: “could substantially reduce the peak in hospital admissions and infections compared with Plan B alone”.
“Delaying until 2022 would greatly reduce the effectiveness of such interventions and make it less likely that these would prevent considerable pressure on health and care settings.”
It has also been reported that plans for a potential two-week circuit breaker lockdown – such as a ban on indoor meetings with people you don’t live – after Christmas are being drawn up, online reports have suggested.
