Stanmore students to undertake work experience in Harrow’s ‘twin town’ in France

Students at Stanmore College are about to embark on a once in a lifetime journey to undertake work experience and enrichment activities in Douai, Harrow’s Twin Town in Northern France.

Learners across Business, Creative Arts and Media (BCAM), Sport and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) at Stanmore College will pay a visit to Douai in an experience that the College says aligns closely with their vision “to ensure that all learners will develop the skills and knowledge they need to achieve qualifications and progress into higher-level courses or employment”.

Councillor John Hinckley and College Governor Jean Lammiman delivered a presentation on Monday 23rd May to students, parents, and staff which covered useful information about the city of Douai, France.

The presentation ended with a light-hearted French language lesson. Councillor John Hinckley and Governor Jean Lammiman are both extremely knowledgeable on the French culture, heritage, and politics and kindly gave up their time to share some of this information with the students prior to their visit.

The college said that the event was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.

The first group of students, who will be accompanied by staff, will be leaving on the 30th May and returning on the 6th June.

Upon arrival in Douai, students and staff will be greeted at the City Hall by Frédéric Chéreau, Mayor of Douai and by members of the International Relations Committee.

The college hopes that the opportunity will expand the students’ cultural knowledge and give them first-hand insight into different environments, heritage, and work practices. To our leaners and accompanying staff, Bon voyage et au revoir pour l’instant!

Stanmore College would like to thank Marsha Thompson, Careers and Employability Manager, and her team for the fantastic work undertaken to ensure that this opportunity became a reality.
