Motorists in Harrow can look forward to an hour’s free parking this summer across high streets and shopping areas across the borough.
Harrow Council’s new Cabinet have approved plans that ‘put resident’s first’ and support local high streets by introducing free parking in on-street parking bays which will be introduced this summer.
The hour-long free parking will allow residents more time in their local shops, restaurants and cafes without worrying about parking costs, say Harrow Council.
It’s hoped that the one hour free parking will give a boost to local businesses, help protect jobs and creating new employment opportunities in Harrow.
Cllr Paul Osborn, leader of the council said: “We’re delivering on our promise of an hour free parking for our residents. This will encourage residents to shop locally and support our local high streets that are the lifeblood of our local economy.
“Having bounced back from the pandemic, this additional support will be welcoming news for the borough’s business community and our residents.”
To claim the offer, which triples the 20 minutes currently available to residents, drivers simply enter their car registration in the usual way and leave their ticket on the windscreen.
Other priorities announced by Harrow Council include:
- Review of regeneration priorities and plans.
- Fly-tipping and street cleaning, with free bulky waste collections.
- Enforcement – houses of multiple occupation, beds in sheds and planning.
- Limits on tall buildings in our suburbs
- Treating residents and business as valued customers.
