Harrow residents name the best places to get a Sunday roast

The Sunday roast is one of the most popular, traditional English meals there is, and in Harrow, we are fortunate to have lots of places that serve up top quality offering.

The classic dish first came to prominence in the 1400’s during the reign of King Henry VII due to the amount of meat consumed by Brits. The meals where served mainly on a Sunday due to bakers not baking bread, henceforth the Sunday roast was born.

Favourite items differ from person to person, but most consider roast chicken or beef, veg including carrots, broccoli, peas and green beans, Yorkshire puddings, roast or mash potatoes and gravy to be consistently popular.

So where are the best places in and around Harrow to visit on a Sunday to get a roast? We asked our group members to find out…


“The steak restaurant in Hatch end lovely they only do beef or chicken but great portion size and really fresh”

“The George is actually soo good and also affordable. Very pleasantly surprised!”

“Not really in Harrow, but the carvery at the waters edge at Ruislip Lido.”

“Not sure if it’s classed as Harrow but Harvester always do a good roast, get the buffet and you can help yourself to the salad too before your food arrives.”

“Actually the George is good for the money or possibly one that’s the Wacky Warehouse as well, the Ballot Box in Greenford.”

“I may be biased here as I live right next to it but The Hare in Old Redding does a highly recommended Sunday roast! All the trimmings and in the Summer we sit outside, it’s got everything you want and it feels like you’re in the countryside when you sit in there.”

“Just go to any of the pubs in Harrow and you’ll get a decent roast.”

“The White Horse, Harrow on the Hill is our household favourite. Great pies too if you don’t fancy the roast.”

“Gino’s in Harrow Weald, opposite Lidl (formerly Homebase) do a great roast on a Sunday. I know it’s popular for full English, but the roasts are banging and very affordable.”

“Not Harrow but The Music Box, Hayes has the best roast around.”

“The Duck in the Pond, Harrow Weald.”

“I would just go to Toby Carvery if you can afford it on a Sunday. Eat all you like and the best veg – it’s so nice.”
