There is a fire at Trafalgar Square this evening with emergency services rushing to the site to deal with the incident.
London Fire Brigade Tweeted: “We’ve got 10 fire engines and around 70 firefighters dealing with a fire in Trafalgar Square. Follow this account for the latest.”
Footage on social media shows a large amount of smoke and people moving away from the scene. The fire is in a pub basement with 70 firefighters tackling the blaze.

Station Commander Keith McDermott, who is at the scene said: “The fire is in the basement of a pub in Trafalgar Square. As a result there will be heavy traffic disruption and we ask people to avoid the area if possible. Follow @LondonFire on Twitter for latest updates.”

The Brigade was called at 1749. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
