Thick black smoke could be seen pouring out of a tyre yard next to Kenton Lane.
Unfortunately, the fire did spread further down the road with one witness telling Harrow Online that three properties have been caught up in the fire. (Later confirmed to be two properties).
According to witnesses at the scene, cars could be heard ‘exploding’ as the fire raged through the yard.
Residents from Hawthorne Avenue, Kenton, have evacuated and are meeting in a local restaurant with local council to discuss plans.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a fire on Hawthorne Avenue in Kenton.
“A car wash, two semi-detached houses and nine vehicles are completely alight.
“Station Commander Paul Osborne, who is at the scene, said: “Around 100 people have been evacuated from nearby blocks of flats, which firefighters are protecting with jets to try and stop the fire spreading.
“Crews are working extremely hard in hot, challenging, arduous conditions to protect local buildings and environment.
“The local community are advised to stay away from the immediate vicinity and, while we know it is hot, to still close windows and doors if they are affected by the smoke.”
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken more than 105 calls to the blaze.
The Brigade was called at 1618. Fire crews from Paddington, Heathrow, Ruislip, Harrow and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
