Harrow residents to get an hour’s free on-street parking from Monday

Harrow residents will benefit from an hour’s free on-street parking across all high streets in the borough from this coming Monday (1 August).

Harrow Council have introduced the free parking extension to “give people more time in their local shops, restaurants and cafes without worrying about parking costs.” This will only apply to Pay & Display machines and is not available in car parks.

From Monday, all you need to do is enter your car registration on a parking machine (on-street only) and leave the ticket on your windscreen, the same as you had done with the previously allocated time in Harrow which was 20 minutes.

Cllr Norman Stevenson, Cabinet Member for Business and Employment, said: “We promised one hour free on-street parking and here it is – for residents to enjoy! While neighbouring boroughs are reducing their free parking time for residents, we have extended it from 20mins to 1 hour, and this is something to be proud of!

“But it’s not about us, it’s about helping local businesses bounce back from the pandemic, protecting jobs and creating new employment opportunities. So please make the most of this offer, shop local and support local businesses.”

Cllr Anjana Patel, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, said: “We’re making life that little bit easier for our residents with an hour’s free parking on street – whether they want to run a quick errand, meet friends, or have something to eat.

“We pledged to do this in May and I am delighted that quite quickly we have made this possible – and it’s going live in a matter of days. This is more than just about putting residents first, it’s about doing the right thing for our businesses and high streets. I know many residents and businesses will welcome this.”
