Nadeeka started the business during the second lockdown back in December 2020 but has been a qualified hairdresser since 2011. Whilst she hadn’t worked in a salon environment since 2014, a local salon was advertising for a hair assistant job. “I was so nervous but decided to apply I explained to the owner that I’m a qualified hairdresser, said Nadeeka.”

“At that time a Hair Assistant position was safe I was back in a salon. Within a few months, my confidence grew and my passion for hairdressing had returned. My tasks were only ever shampooing and cleaning a lot of cleaning due to the covid restrictions with the occasional blow-dry, I became very miserable and felt undervalued.

“That feeling of not being good enough was starting to return so I decided to leave in the second lockdown of 2020. Then on my 40th birthday May 10th 2021 I officially launched my business as a great marketing tool for my friends and family to follow my social media share.

“I started New Visions with just a piece of paper full of ideas and cups and cups of coffee with only £700 savings in my bank. I attended webinars run by The British Library Trust who offer, start-up support workshops where I was able to connect with like-minded entrepreneurs and exchange useful information on branding and marketing in a short space of five months, I was on a mission and sent surveys out to friends and family members via WhatsApp asking them to share. I wrote a business plan, just so I can stick to a plan, and structure.

“Once I had all the relevant tools to begin, I created my workspace and made sure I had all salon essentials as I began to advertise my services on Instagram but with only one photo. It was hard to build up trust and clientele at first, but the more hair I did the more recognised I became purely by my work.”
