Mother from Harrow to run marathon and raise funds for charity

A mother from Harrow has taken up the challenge of raising money for the LNWH Charity and competing in the upcoming Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 9th October.

Shiksha Bhanshaly, a mother of two from Harrow, will support the work of Northwick Park Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which looks after pre-maturely born babies by running in the half-marathon which is over 13.1 miles long. The course passes through four London parks as well as famous landmarks including Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace.

This has been described as a ‘personal race’ for Shiksha, whose fouryear-old twin sons, Ahaan and Aarin, were born 26 weeks early and spent time in three different neonatal units including Northwick Park Hospital.

Shiksha said: “I was impressed the staff were so approachable and took the time to explain everything through what was a real rollercoaster of a journey.”

Having only started running in 2020, Shiksha has raised an incredible amount of more than £6,000 for the unit as part of a team supported by her employer, Barclays.

She hopes to raise a further £500 at the Royal Parks but welcomes further support via her JustGiving page.
