Strangers meet in Queen’s queue and discover they are Harrow neighbours

What a coincidence! two strangers who slept out in the Mall overnight ahead of the Queen’s funeral started chatting and only realised they lived fifteen minutes from each other.

Debbie Stone from Stanmore and Sophie Linwood from Harrow both queued and saw Her Majesty lying in state at the Palace of Westminster ahead of the funeral yesterday.

Debbie told Harrow Online: “Sylvia had been sleeping out on the Mall since Friday to secure a good spot, I went down at 2300 Sunday night, so another night of no sleep. But it was worth it.

“We chatted to people around us who had come down for the day from places as far afield as North Yorkshire, Scotland, Cornwall and even a lady who had flown in from Georgia, USA. The crowd were magnificent, and the silence in Mall for the 2-minute silence was overwhelming. We remembered the time the Queen visited Harrow and how she made everyone feel relaxed and normal.

“Being there today was emotional and sad but also a touch of joy as we celebrated the life of the Queen – It felt like a unifying moment for the country.”
