‘Red Beret Girl’ from Harrow goes viral on TikTok and Twitter with millions of views

A girl from Harrow who’s currently starring on the big screen in the new Matilda: The Musical film, has gone viral after videos on social media gained over fifty million views.

Meesha Garbett, 14, who lives in Harrow, has been praised for her dancing ability and dubbed, by Netflix, as the ‘Red Beret Girl‘ after videos of the choreography in the movie went viral across all platforms.

Matilda: The Musical also stars Hollywood legend Dame Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch and Stephen Graham and has been highly praised by audiences and critics alike. Meesha plays the role of Hortensia Buckets in the film, school friend of Matlida herself played by Alisha Weir.

No stranger to the spotlight, Meesha is also part of the UK’s Junior Eurovision entry this year along with three other dancers to appear on stage with singer Freya Skye. The competition takes place next week with voting starting on the 9th and again at the finals on the 11th December.

In her short but incredibly successful career, she has already been awarded the British Advanced Freestyle Street championship 5 times, the World Popping Battle championship and she’s also a 2-time World Street Dance champion. In addition to the awards, Meesha has also starred in CATS, Jingle Jangle, Hobbs & Shaw and reached the Britain’s Got Talent finals!

Harrow Online had the opportunity to speak with Keith Garbett, Meesha’s Dad, who said: “We moved to London so that Meesha could pursue her dream, just want other children to know that it is possible for anyone! We are not from a privileged family at all.

“I couldn’t be any prouder of how hard Meesha has worked to achieve all that she has achieved! Getting people recognise Meesha in the street is crazy.”
