Not a lot of people in Harrow are aware that back in 1997, Steps recorded their iconic official music video for Tragedy in All Saints Church in Stanmore.
This year, the church suffered its own personal tragedy when the passageway between the church and the toilets collapsed. The long dry summer in Harrow confirmed that the original foundations were insufficient and the passage was structurally unsafe.
All Saints are now hoping to raise £2,000 this Christmas to go towards the repairs. In total, the work will cost the church a whopping £50,000.
Here’s the fun part – a few weeks ago, the church received a surprise call asking if they would allow the venue to be used again by the 1990s pop sensations for a ‘Then and Now’ video on the 25th anniversary of the hit song.
They, of course, accepted the offer and the video has been made and released! In the new edition, a link inviting everybody to make a donation to help the Stanmore church is included, the hope is that it will raise enough money to replace the passageway.
So far, All Saints have received £3,000 in donations, including gift aid. Even Lisa Scott-Lee from Steps has given £2,000!
On the Just Giving Page, The Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of All Saints Harrow Weald ask for people to make donations to help, not only the passageway, but to add an extra toilet to make the church more inclusive.
