Kebab shop in Harrow named as finalist in the British Kebab Awards

A Harrow kebab shop has been named a finalist in the 2023 British Kebab Awards, it has been announced.

Zara Restaurant, based in Wealdstone High Street, has made it onto the shortlist of finalists with winners to be revealed at the upcoming awards ceremony in February.

Judges for the awards have filtered through a ‘huge volume of incredibly high-standard entries’ and the results are now in. Finalists from across the UK have a chance to win one of 20 prestigious awards at the ceremony which takes place at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge Hotel, on 28th February 2023.

The awards, run in association with JUST EAT and supported by the Kebab Alliance, the sector’s trade body, are in their eleventh year and this year have attracted record-breaking numbers of entries. They recognise and champion the efforts of local kebab takeaways and restaurants across the UK.

Zara Restaurant has been part of the Harrow community for well over 15 years and follow in the footsteps of other local eateries in the borough that have also been nominated for awards such as Belmont Bay.

Ibrahim Dogus, founder of the British Kebab Awards and Director of the recently formed Kebab Alliance, commented: “Kebab eateries are a key part of the local community and it’s great to see so many entries at the end of a year that has tested every business operating in the hospitality sector. Getting to the shortlist is a real achievement given the competition across the country and all outlets should be rightly proud. We wish all finalists the best of luck.”

Nadhim Zahawi MP, Chairman of the Conservative Party, comments: “When I sponsored the first Kebab Awards nearly 13 years ago, I never would have thought it would have turned into such a Westminster fixture. Forget the Spectator Summer Party, the Kebab of the Year Awards are THE place to be seen. But these awards are also a recognition of a massive industry that contributes so much to communities up and down the country. I’m looking forward to another wonderful evening!”

Alison Thewliss, SNP MP for Glasgow Central, Commented: “I’m really looking forward to attending the British Kebab Awards this year. It’s always a brilliant night and a chance to appreciate some of the hidden treasures in the kebab world. There are so many fantastic kebab outlets throughout my constituency, and I am sure a few will be nominated for awards this year.

“While it is important that we celebrate the many kebab restaurants and takeaways across the country, it’s those behind the scenes that make these places what they are. From the chefs to the cleaners and all those in between, every person that supports the outlets in the way that they do deserve a huge amount of thanks for their impact in society. It would be great if the people of my constituency could come together and show their appreciation for everyone who makes these places such a key part of the culture of Glasgow.”
