New public footpath under construction in Harrow Weald Park

A new public footpath is currently being constructed in Harrow Weald Recreation Ground, also known as Boxtree Park.

The path stretches all the way around the football field next to the Maricas Avenue and Weighton Road entrances of the park. The work started at the end of November and is expected to be completed in February 2023.

Whilst the works are being completed, the entrance on Weighton Road is closed during weekdays with the Maricas Avenue entrance also closed for some weekdays. The new path runs the length of the field, opposite to the front entrance of the Kodak FC clubhouse, and provides a new walking route from Maricus Avenue to Weighton Road, Harrow Weald.

The new footpath has gone down well with local residents. Jo, 38, who lives on a neighbouring road to the park said: “Every time I take my dog for a walk in the winter months, I get muddy! so I usually avoid the big field but now this won’t be a problem.

“Looking forward to the works being completed in the new year so I can test it out.”

A representative from the Friends of Harrow Weald Park told Harrow Online: “The path is another great asset to our park users, supplied by a Green Grid grant in partnership with Harrow Council. The path offers resident a previously impossible walk around the second field, now there is greater access for everyone.

“Over the coming months we have a range of exciting wellbeing projects based around having this new path in the park to support wellbeing for bugs and humans alike. Once the path is complete you will be able to walk from any point in the park to ParkLife Café for a cup of tea, finest Italian coffee or hot chocolate all made with love.”
