Harrow’s Sports: A guide to joining local sports teams and clubs

if you’re anything like me, you’ll love going to the local five-a-side pitch on a Sunday – I use Goals in Ruislip to have a kickabout. Luckily, Harrow has a thriving sports scene, with a variety of sports clubs and teams available for people of all ages and abilities.

Whether you’re looking to join a team sport, take up an individual sport or simply get fit, there’s a sports club in Harrow for you. Below, we take a look at some of the bigger clubs and teams in Harrow that you can get involved with, or indeed sign your children up for activities.

Football Clubs in Harrow

Harrow has a number of football clubs, ranging from the grassroots level to semi-professional. Some of the most popular clubs include:

Wealdstone FC – A semi-professional football club based in Ruislip. Wealdstone Youth FC also offers training sessions for children in Harrow. You can ask the club, and this applies across the board if you can try a free training session with them.

Harrow Borough FC – A semi-professional football club that plays in the Isthmian League.

Rayners Lane FC – A grassroots-level football club that offers football for all ages.

Parkfield Youth FC – Possibly the biggest youth football club in Harrow. This one is for younger players and has spawned some of the best local talents we have seen in the borough.

Cricket is a popular sport in Harrow, with a number of clubs available for players of all ages and abilities. Some of the most popular cricket clubs in Harrow include:

Harrow Cricket Club – A club that offers cricket for all ages and abilities, one of the most established across the borough.

Harrow St Mary’s Cricket Club – A grassroots-level club that offers cricket for children and adults. Based Old Millhillians Ground near Headstone Lane station. They are in Division 1 of the Middlesex County League.

Harrow Town Cricket Club – A club that offers cricket for all ages and abilities

Other Sports Clubs in Harrow

Harrow Athletics Club – A club that offers athletics training for all ages, they are based in Harrow Weald at Bannisters Sports Centre.

Borough of Harrow Swimming Club – Offering swimming for all ages and abilities with coaching of the highest standard. They train to Olympic level.

Harrow Tennis Club – A club that offers tennis for all ages and abilities.

The Harrow Club – A club that offers volleyball, basketball, boxing and football for all ages and abilities. Really worth checking them out as they offer such a wide variety.

How to Join a Sports Club in Harrow

To join a sports club in Harrow, simply contact the club you’re interested in joining and enquire about membership. Most clubs will offer a trial period, during which you can try out the sport and see if the club is a good fit for you – mostly you will find they are! and it’s also a great way to get out and meet new, like-minded people.

Many clubs will also offer coaching and training sessions, as well as competitive matches and tournaments, so you can develop your skills and compete against other teams as you improve your skills – and don’t worry, this won’t be expected of you upon joining, most clubs will ensure that you are trained up to the highest level before you attempt to compete in any way.
