Harrow residents using alternative fuels can receive £200 energy bill support

Harrow residents who use alternative fuels like heating oil, LPG, biomass, and others can now receive a £200 energy bill support from the UK Government.

Energy Secretary Grant Shapps has extended the period for applicants to evidence the purchase of alternative fuels by three months to June 2022, instead of September 2022. This extension means that households who bought fuel in bulk ahead of the winter will still be able to claim the support they are entitled to.

If you’re eligible for the £200 Alternative Fuel Payment, you can now apply using receipts from June 2022 until May 2023. This extension is important because many households in Harrow purchased fuel ahead of winter price increases, and the government doesn’t want them to be penalized.

It’s worth noting that most alternative fuel users have already received payments automatically, and only a small number of households using alternative fuels as their primary heating source need to apply for bill support. Additionally, the government has increased the number of receipts households can submit to claim the Alternative Fuel Payment from two to ten.

In a statement, Energy Secretary Grant Shapps said, “We have already stepped in and paid half of a typical household energy bill, but we also always want to make sure support gets to those who need it. That’s why today we’re again stepping in to make sure those households using heating oil, LPG, biomass and more, can submit receipts for fuel purchases as far back as June 2022, because we recognize many households will have bought ahead of winter.”

The extension of the energy bill support scheme is excellent news for Harrow residents who use alternative fuels, and it shows that the government is committed to supporting households that need it the most.

If you’re eligible for the Alternative Fuel Payment, make sure to apply using receipts from June 2022 to May 2023 to receive the £200 support you’re entitled to.
