Pinner Robbery: Man jailed after 95-year-old woman targeted

A man from Pinner, Thomas Connolly, has been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge after stealing a 95-year-old woman’s handbag in the car park of Tesco on Ash Hill Drive, Pinner.

According to a post by Pinner PCSO Lee O’Brien on OWL, in January of this year, Connolly approached the elderly woman and asked for money.

When she refused, Connolly waited for the woman to unload her shopping and then stole her handbag from her car, which contained cash and bank cards.

Thanks to CCTV footage, officers from the Pinner Safer Neighbourhood Team were able to identify Connolly and subsequently arrested him on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle. Although he pleaded guilty to the offence in court, he was arrested on two occasions for failing to re-attend court regarding the matter.

On Thursday 13th April, at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, Connolly was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.

The court’s decision serves as a warning to would-be thieves that stealing from vulnerable members of society will not be tolerated.
