Harrow Coronation Events: A list of the biggest and best in the borough

Harrow is gearing up to celebrate the King’s Coronation with a series of exciting events taking place across the borough.

The coronation, which marks the ascension of His Majesty King Charles III, is set to be a momentous occasion, the first coronation since Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 – an event not to be missed.

Street parties will be held across Harrow to mark the occasion, and applications for hosting street parties are now closed. In addition to street parties, there will be plenty of community events taking place. The King’s Coronation Parade will take place on 5 May in Harrow Town Centre, where children from local schools will parade dressed as Kings and Queens.

The parade will be led by a small band and will start and finish at Katie’s Statue. At the end of the parade, the best-dressed King and Queen will be awarded prizes and will sit on a custom-built throne.

On 7 May, the centrepiece of the Coronation Concert, ‘Lighting up the Nation’, will see the country join together in celebration as boroughs across the UK are lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays, and illuminations. Later that same evening, the Mayor of Harrow will be taking part in a beacon lighting ceremony at Hatch End Playing Fields to mark the occasion.

Leading up to the big day itself, there will also be a Crown Making Craft Activity held at Pinner, Stanmore, and Roxeth libraries on 29 April for little princes and princesses aged 5 to 9 years.

The Coronation Celebration Day will take place on 8 May at Headstone Manor & Museum, from 12 pm to 5 pm. It will be a fun-packed day for all the family, with live performances, interactive games, a magic workshop, and sword fighting. There will also be fairground rides, community stalls, and lots of food and drink available. Book your tickets online to receive a free Union Jack flag on entry.

To complement the festivities, there will be an exhibition titled “Coronations in Harrow” held at Headstone Manor & Museum from 5 May to 2 July. The exhibition will feature archives and objects that explore the celebrations of coronations in Harrow, both past and present. A commemorative book will be produced for the exhibition and will be available at Harrow libraries.
