Brand new leisure centre in Hillingdon set to open next year

The final steel beam has been installed in the Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre in West Drayton, bringing the construction of the building one step closer to completion.

The ceremony was attended by Hillingdon Council Leader Cllr Ian Edwards, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Property, Highways and Transport Cllr Jonathan Bianco, and Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services Cllr Eddie Lavery. The ceremony marks the installation of the final beam in the new structure, which is a traditional builders’ rite of passage.

The Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre will be a vital community amenity for residents of Yiewsley and West Drayton, offering a range of leisure facilities, including a 25-meter swimming pool, training pool, splash zone, gym and health suite, soft play, youth and community hub, café, terrace, and rooftop 3G turf football pitch.

The leisure centre’s design incorporates feedback from residents who were consulted on the plans in September 2019.

The build of the Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre is being undertaken by Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd, who started work on the site in spring 2022. The centre is expected to be completed in summer 2024.

Cllr Bianco expressed his delight at the impressive build taking shape and looks forward to seeing it when it’s fully finished and bustling with people. He added that the Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre is a statement of the council’s commitment to ensuring residents have access to first-class health and leisure services that enable them to live active, fulfilling lifestyles. The local community is expected to enjoy the fantastic leisure centre once open.
