In a heartwarming display of selflessness and compassion, nine-year-old Eva from Harrow is on her way to becoming a true Superhairo.
Over the past 18 months, Eva has dedicated her time and effort to growing her hair with a single purpose in mind: to donate at least 12 inches to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to young people up to the age of 24 who have lost their own hair due to various reasons.
Eva’s remarkable journey of giving began back in 2015 when, like many others, she found herself unable to visit a hairdresser during a lockdown. Instead of letting her long locks go to waste, she chose to cut her hair and donate it to charity.
Since then, she has continued to support various causes, including raising over £4,000 for The Sick Children’s Trust through activities like an Electric Run and family gatherings.
Born with multiple health complications that continue to impact her daily life, Eva’s resilience and determination shine through. Weighing just 525 grams at birth, she underwent emergency surgery to repair a gap in her oesophagus. Her early life was spent in and out of the hospital, but that did not deter her spirit.
At 18 months old, Eva underwent nine surgeries at Great Ormond Street Hospital to remove three renal stones caused by Caudal Regression Syndrome, a condition that still affects her today. Just before her fourth birthday, she was diagnosed with Portal Hypertension, a life-threatening condition resulting in numerous hospital admissions and interventions to prevent further internal bleeding.
Despite the challenges she faces daily, Eva remains an incredibly compassionate child, showing empathy for those going through their own struggles. Motivated by her desire to help others, she decided to grow and cut her hair once again to make a wig for another child who has lost their hair.
To raise funds for the Little Princess Trust, Eva’s parents set up a JustGiving page. The cost of making a single wig can amount to £550, prompting the family to seek support from the community. Within a mere 12 hours of launching the fundraising page, Eva’s dedicated supporters had already helped her surpass her initial target, raising over £580.
Overwhelmed by the response, Eva decided to increase her goal to fund even more wigs for children in need. The momentous occasion of Eva’s hair donation is scheduled for the 16th of June.
Eva’s selflessness and determination serve as an inspiration to all, reminding us that acts of kindness, no matter how small, can have a profound impact on the lives of others. As the Harrow community rallies behind Eva, her Superhairo journey is set to bring joy and comfort to young boys and girls facing the challenges of hair loss.
