During the lockdown, Kara and Claud found themselves furloughed and in search of a fulfilling pastime. With time on their hands, they turned to YouTube videos to learn the secrets of crafting the perfect Neapolitan pizza. Days of experimentation, recipe trials, and sharing their creations with family and neighbours sparked an idea—transforming their newfound passion into a business venture.
Armed with nothing more than a 1980s horse trailer, a Land Rover Defender 90, and countless trips to B&Q for supplies, they launched their venture—the Social Dough Company. They started by providing driveway service, delighting residents in Harrow with their tantalizing pizza creations during the series of lockdowns. As demand grew, they expanded their operations, introducing collection sites through a custom-built van stationed at different locations each night of the week.
After months of hard work and dedication, Kara and Claud proudly unveiled their first permanent establishment at 17 Love Lane in Pinner. The property underwent an impressive six-month transformation, with a complete strip-down and renovation to create a restaurant space equipped with a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen. In December 2022, the doors of The Social Dough Company swung open, welcoming eager customers to savour their exceptional pizzas.
Beyond offering yummy pizza, the pair’s latest venture allowed them to reimagine their branding, expand the menu, and offer employment opportunities to local residents.
