Harrow Council and Trees for Streets are partnering to increase the number of trees in the borough.
Residents can sponsor a street tree or a tree in a Harrow park. They can choose the location and have the option to water the tree themselves or let the council handle it. Sponsorship donations range from £195 to £295.
Planting more trees in Harrow brings forth a multitude of benefits for the community and the environment. Firstly, trees act as natural air purifiers, absorbing harmful pollutants such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter, thereby improving air quality and reducing the impact of air pollution on public health.
By mitigating air pollution, increased tree cover can contribute to a healthier and cleaner environment for Harrow’s residents, leading to reduced respiratory problems and improved overall well-being.
Furthermore, trees play a vital role in combating climate change. They act as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis and storing it in their trunks, branches, and roots.
The sponsorship package includes a 5-7-year-old tree, tree stakes, a wire mesh tree guard, and possibly a watering bag and irrigation tube.
Confirmation is received within 3 weeks, with tree planting scheduled between Autumn 2023 and Spring 2024. To find out more about the scheme, visit the Trees for Streets website.
Let’s make Harrow greener and more beautiful together!
