North Harrow Library faces potential closure due to rising electricity costs

North Harrow Community Library is facing financial challenges with a significant increase in its monthly electricity bill due to the cost of living crisis.

To address this issue and ensure the library’s continued operation, the dedicated team of volunteers has organised a special cake sale event.

All proceeds from the sale will be directed towards covering the mounting electricity expenses and securing the library’s future.

The library, located at 429-433 Pinner Road, North Harrow, HA1 4HN, has been a vital hub for knowledge, community engagement, and learning opportunities for residents in the area.

Run entirely by volunteers, the library offers a wide range of resources, including books, magazines, and study spaces.

In an effort to raise awareness about their financial plight and encourage community support, the library has released a flyer detailing the cake sale. The flyer highlights the astonishing rise in their electricity bill, which has surged from £150 per month to over £1000.

They posted the following on Facebook: “KEEP OUR LIBRARY OPEN. In April, our electricity bill jumped from £150 to over £1000/month with NO warning. We desperately need the help of our community to keep us going. Please join our cake sale or donate a cake for our fundraising efforts Please help us to keep going.”

The cake sale is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 17th, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, directly at the North Harrow Community Library premises. The event promises a delightful assortment of homemade cakes, pastries, and other treats, lovingly prepared by supporters.

The library committee hopes to rally the community together in their time of need, encouraging local residents, businesses, and organisations to attend the cake sale and contribute generously if they can.
