Harrow’s beloved parks and open spaces have once again been honoured with the prestigious Green Flag Awards, thanks to the collaborative efforts of volunteers, park user groups, and the council’s park teams.
Six parks, namely Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, Pinner Memorial Park, Harrow Recreation Ground, Roxeth Recreation Ground, Kenton Recreation Ground, and Canons Park, will soon proudly raise their brand new Green Flags.
Cllr Anjana Patel, cabinet member for Environment and Community Safety, expressed her delight, stating, “This is fantastic news for Harrow. Our parks are great places to relax, exercise, and meet family and friends. I know a lot of work has taken place behind the scenes to attain these 6 Green Flag Awards – in fact, we made this one of our key flagship actions. I’d like to thank residents who volunteer their time in Park User Groups and everyone else who has been involved in achieving this – it is a testament to ensuring residents can enjoy using our high-quality parks.”
Harrow’s Green Flag parks offer unique attractions, from Canons Park’s Grade II-listed walled garden to Harrow Recreation Ground’s sports facilities. Roxeth Recreation Ground provides recreational spaces, while Pinner Memorial Park offers tranquillity with its pond and aviary. Kenton Recreation Ground boasts sports amenities and Headstone Manor’s rich history and restoration make it a standout park.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under license from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
The awards serve as a testament to the outstanding efforts of Harrow’s community, ensuring residents can enjoy and cherish their high-quality parks for years to come.
