Cashless parking launched across Hillingdon

Hillingdon Council has announced the launch of PayByPhone, a flexible parking payment system, across all parts of the borough.

The digital parking payment system offers both residents and visitors the ‘convenience’ of paying for their parking on the go using their phone or online, eliminating the need to buy a ticket from a machine.

The PayByPhone system went live across the borough today, and Hillingdon residents who haven’t registered yet are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. To begin, residents can download the PayByPhone app and register, ensuring they link their HillingdonFirst card to avail themselves of residents’ discounts.

Motorists can pay for their parking directly from their car and proceed to their destination, such as hopping on a train, without the need to visit a parking machine or display a physical ticket in their vehicle.

All necessary booking details, including a unique location code, will be prominently displayed on signs around the car park and on the parking machines themselves.

One of the more popular features of PayByPhone is the ability to easily extend a parking session without returning to the car.

The system can also send text reminders when a session is about to end, ensuring motorists stay updated on their parking status.

Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, expressed the council’s commitment to embracing digital advancements. He stated, “We’re committed to being a digital-enabled, modern council, and PayByPhone reflects how many people today prefer to pay for goods and services via their mobile devices.”

He further highlighted that the implementation of PayByPhone is an example of the council’s efforts to modernize services while prioritising residents’ convenience and value for money. With PayByPhone’s digital system, there is no need to buy or display physical tickets.

However, Cllr Lavery reassured residents that traditional payment methods, such as bank cards or coins, are still accepted at ticket machines, ensuring inclusivity for all.

PayByPhone’s cashless parking solution is not exclusive to Hillingdon, as it is available in numerous other car parks across the UK, including those in Harrow where it was launched earlier this year.
