Five-ton gas leak in Harrow causes major disruption

A major gas leak in Harrow caused severe disruption to rail services today.

Emergency services responded to the leak, near Harrow & Wealdstone station which resulted in all trains being suspended at London Euston.

At around 12pm, London Northwestern Railway tweeted: “Due to a 5 ton gas tank leaking in the Harrow area, all services between Northampton and London Euston are now suspended.

“We’ll update you with more information as soon as possible.”

At around 1pm, they updated saying: “The engineers have completed their work & it is safe for train services to resume.

“Due to the location / duration of the closure and knock on displacement of crews & trains, restoring the service may take multiple hours.

“Ticket acceptance will remain in place.”

The BBC reported that about 25 people had to be evacuated from neighbouring properties in Forward Drive due to the incident.
