Park High School in Stanmore raises £11K for charity during ‘Shine Night Walk’

In an effort to raise funds for charity, 41 staff members from Park High School in Stanmore, Harrow, participated in the Cancer Research UK 10k ‘Shine Night Walk’ on September 23.

The Shine Night Walk is a fundraising event in London, guiding participants past iconic landmarks like Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. Open to everyone, it raises funds for Cancer Research, symbolised by participants dressing in lights and sparkles.

Park High School staff, including Mrs. Molloy in a Glitter Ball costume, wholeheartedly embraced the theme throughout the event!

The walk was not just a community event; it was a deeply personal one. The team dedicated their participation to the memory of a beloved colleague who lost her battle with cancer last year and others who are currently undergoing treatment.

While all staff completed the walk, Mr. Osman led the charge and completed the walk in an impressive 1 hour and 8 minutes, setting a new record for the event in the process.

Their collective efforts resulted in an impressive £11k contribution, adding to the overall estimated £2 million raised during this year’s proceeds from the walk. The money will play a role in advancing Cancer Research UK’s mission to increase the survival rates, aiming for more people to survive cancer for a decade or longer by the year 2034.

A spokesperson from Park High School said: “We are very proud of all the staff who took part in the Cancer Research Shine Night Walk 2023.

“They have demonstrated all our Character virtues Integrity having strong moral principles, Compassion for helping others, Curiosity to try and see if they could do it, Resilience to keep going, and most importantly Teamwork, working together to arrange the event, raise money for a great cause and walk together and help each other through it.”

Apart from their fundraising efforts, Park High School continues to support its students through “The Space,” a confidential counseling service available during Thursday lunchtimes. This service offers a safe and supportive environment for students to discuss and seek help for any issues they might be facing.

For those inspired by Park High School’s initiative and willing to contribute to the fight against cancer, donations can be made through their fundraising page.
