Ten fire engines rushed to Sudbury this afternoon after a fire was reported at the Rising Sun Hotel and Restaurant.
Images showed plumes of smoke billowing from the top of the building with members of the public looking on.
London Fire Brigade initially posted via X: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a fire at a pub on Greenford Road in #SudburyHill. More info to follow”
The hotel is located is on Greenford Road and members of the public in the surrounding area have been advised to shut their doors and windows until the smoke subsides by London Fire Brigade.
In a statement, the Brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a pub fire on Greenford Road in Sudbury Hill.
“The whole of the roof and the first floor of the pub were alight. There are currently no reports of any injuries.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 12 calls to the blaze.
“Station Commander Gary Deacon, who was at the scene, said: “The fire was producing a large amount of smoke and those in the local area were advised to keep their windows and doors shut until smoke subsided.
“A 25-metre cordon has been put in place as a precaution and traffic is building up, so please avoid the area where possible.
“The roof of the building has partially collapsed and crews are expected to remain on scene for some time this evening extinguishing remaining pockets of fire.”
“The Brigade was called at 1749 and the fire was under control by 1913. Fire crews from Northolt, Harrow, Southall and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
