Restaurant in Ealing goes from 1 star rating to High Five award

An restaurant in Ealing, Samrat Bangladeshi and Indian Cuisine located on Pitshanger Lane, has been acknowledged for its notable enhancement in food safety and hygiene standards, as per the evaluation conducted by Ealing Council’s food safety team.

This recognition came in the form of a High Five award, an initiative developed by the council to commend local businesses that, despite initial non-compliance with food safety and hygiene standards, have made significant improvements.

Following a routine inspection in January 2023 that led to a 1* rating, the restaurant diligently collaborated with food safety officers to elevate their standards. Their efforts culminated in an impressive 5* rating during a subsequent inspection in May 2023.

Food hygiene inspections focus on 3 main areas: hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

The restaurant was presented with their trophy by Councillor Louise Brett, the council’s cabinet member for decent living incomes.

Restaurant owner, Shafrul Islam, said: “We are lucky to have so many local customers – some have been coming to our restaurant for 40 years. It was disappointing, and we really wanted to get the rating back up for our customers.”

He added, “With the support of Ealing Council, we have made significant changes and are proud to say we have achieved the top rating in the food hygiene rating scheme.”

Councillor Brett said: “Huge congratulations to Samrat restaurant. This award recognises the hard work that the restaurant has put in to improve their food hygiene rating from 1 to 5.”
