Atria Watford has confirmed that, in addition to Dunelm, a new business will occupy the former John Lewis located in Watford Town Centre.
Following the closure of Watford’s multi-floor John Lewis unit in 2020, speculation arose regarding its future occupant.
In May, it was revealed that Dunelm would be opening up at the former units in the centre. The latest update confirms that Poundland will also occupy one of these units in what has been described as a flagship branch of the brand.
In October, Poundland officially announced its plan to open or relocate 75 stores by the end of December, marking the most extensive three-month expansion initiative in the company’s history. This program includes both the existing pipeline of new stores and the former Wilko stores that Poundland has either already opened or plans to convert into new Poundland outlets.
A spokesperson for Poundland said, ‘We look forward to relocating to part of the former John Lewis in early December. The store will be a flagship for us, carrying our new clothing and homewares ranges alongside the grocery items we’re famous for.’
The move in Watford was also described as a ‘major milestone’ for the brand, with an opening date expected to be announced very soon.”
