Council reveals £1.6M playground upgrades in Hillingdon with two new openings

Hillingdon Council has unveiled two revamped playgrounds, Albion Road in Hayes and St Peter’s Road in Cowley, as part of a borough-wide initiative.

These upgrades are the latest in a four-year, £1.6 million refurbishment program targeting 26 sites, emphasising modern, accessible, and inclusive play equipment in communal housing estates, parks, and open spaces. Mayor Shehryar Ahmad-Wallana and Cllr Eddie Lavery officially opened the playgrounds, featuring inclusive amenities like see-saws, cradle seat swings, and wheelchair-accessible roundabouts. The enhancements align with the council’s broader commitment to green space improvements, tree planting, and tennis court renovations.

Cllr Lavery, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “We want to ensure that young residents have access to safe, high quality play and leisure facilities by replacing older play equipment in the borough as part of our commitment to creating thriving, healthy households.

“The vast array of green spaces in Hillingdon is a real jewel in the borough’s crown but it takes a huge amount of time, hard work and money to keep them in such good condition.

“We consider this a very worthy investment that will enable young residents to live healthy, active lives and by incorporating more accessible and inclusive play equipment we ensure no child misses out on the vital opportunity for play.”

The council confirmed that a further three playgrounds are currently scheduled to be refurbished next year.
