Some residents in Harrow’s Eastman Village are enduring a week-long struggle without heating and hot water due to a cold snap that has caused an outage in the energy system. The ongoing issue has left residents frustrated with reports of multiple households affected by the outage.
One resident reached out to Harrow Online, stating, “Eastman Village in Harrow has no hot water for the past 7 days, in this cold weather. This has been happening for the past 4 years with no permanent solution. All residents are trying to get this sorted with just promises and nothing more.”
In response to the situation, a spokesperson for Barratt London expressed regret, saying, “We are very sorry for the water and heating issues at our Eastman Village development in Harrow, and we are working as hard as we can to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. A new on-site energy centre will open in the coming weeks, and in the meantime, we are working with engineers to put in place a temporary solution.”
Despite the challenges, Barratt London has taken steps to alleviate the impact on affected residents. All individuals experiencing the outage have been contacted and offered portable heaters or temporary accommodation. Residents have previously received compensation in the form of reduced energy bills for the duration of outages.
Acknowledging the persistent problems with the heating system at Eastman Village, the spokesperson added. “We recognise that there have been problems with the heating system at Eastman Village previously and understand how frustrating that is for residents. We have been working hard this year to connect the new on-site energy centre, which is the long term solution to these problems.”
The spokesperson also noted the unfortunate timing of the current outage, occurring just 1-2 weeks before the scheduled opening of the energy centre. The recent cold snap has added extra strain to the existing system, contributing to the challenges faced by Eastman Village residents in accessing heating and hot water.
Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, said “It has now been over a week that 70 families have gone without hot water and heating in Eastman Village – I have been contacted by residents this week and have written to Barrett Housing, demanding an urgent response to residents concerns as well as a meeting.
“I have asked for clarity on offering compensation to everyone affected and when exactly the new energy centre will be operational. If you are a resident impacted at Eastman Village and you would like to join any public meetings with Barrett Housing in the future – please send me an email on Gareth.email@example.com”
