Football icon and former I’m a Celebrity champion, Harry Redknapp, has opened the new state-of-the-art Imaging Department at The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow.
This new addition marks a key milestone for the hospital, part of the Circle Health Group, amidst the ongoing £300 million investment initiative across its national hospital network.
The newly unveiled imaging facility, with a total investment of £2 million, commenced operations on December 11. Equipped with cutting-edge scanning technology, the department is poised to serve patients for years to come. Harry Redknapp, familiar with the hospital, had the honour of cutting the ribbon during the official opening ceremony.
The former football manager, and FA Cup winner, said: “The new imaging department looks amazing and it’s going to improve everything and if it helps people who need scans then that is wonderful.
“It’s great that the hospital has a fantastic new imaging department because it’s so important to patients. If you’ve got to be in hospital then this is as good as it will probably be anywhere in the country.”
As a result, The Clementine Churchill Hospital will now be able to see more patients and diagnose them faster, reducing waiting times across the region. Faster access to imaging services means patients will be able to discuss the results of their scans with their consultant within a few days, and a treatment plan can then be put in place.
State-of-the-art equipment including digital X-ray, Cone-Beam CT, fluroscopy and a new MRI scanner will transform the diagnostic services available to patients at the hospital.
Brett Hutchinson, Clinical Services Manager for Imaging, explains: “The patient journey can often be lengthy, so anything that we can do to make it smoother really helps the patient. The digital system that we have in place at the hospital will accelerate the patient’s journey massively, ultimately leading to better outcomes.”
“Patients will be able to talk to their consultant soon after having a scan. This means they will be able to plan and start their treatment as quickly as possible.”
The imaging department at The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow is now equipped to offer CT Coronary Angiograms. A procedure that uses a powerful X-ray machine to produce images of the heart and blood vessels.
CT Coronary Angiograms are essential for diagnosing blocked arteries in the heart and conditions such as Atrial fibrillation. This condition causes an abnormally fast heart rate which can be dangerous if left untreated.
Lisa Trybus, Executive Director at The Clementine Churchill Hospital, said: “I’m delighted that we are now able to offer patients the latest imaging technology in a modern and welcoming environment. The opening of our new imaging department represents an investment in our commitment to providing patients with fast and effective treatment.
“I am incredibly grateful that Harry was able to come and join us for such a special evening. This is a lovely reward for the clinical team who have worked tirelessly over the last year to make the new department a reality.”
