As the spring season approaches, residents in Harrow are invited to sign up for the annual garden waste service subscription.
The Harrow Council subscription service, priced at £69 for the 2024/25 year, offers a reliable, year-round waste collection at the cost of £2.76 per collection.
Due to increasing operational expenses, there has been a slight adjustment in the subscription fee, with a £4 increment this year. However, subscribers receiving Council Tax Support will benefit from a reduced rate of £34.50. For those already enrolled in Direct Debit, renewal is automatic in April.
Residents wanting to sign up for the service or renew their subscription can make payments online at www.harrow.gov.uk/gardenwaste. The option of Direct Debit is also encouraged, for renewal in March.
Councillor Stephen Greek, the Cabinet Member for Performance, Communications, and Customer Experience, stressed the environmental impact of choosing the service. He stated, “By choosing our garden waste service, you’re helping protect the environment and divert money to essential services.”
The deadline for those aiming to commence their garden waste service in April is Sunday, 17 March. Subscribers can anticipate a letter with additional details and a new sticker for their brown bin, which will be sent out around the end of March this year.
Cllr Stephen Greek further added, “Once you’re signed up, leave the rest to our teams who’ll collect your garden waste on your usual collection day.”
Providing insight into the post-collection process, the council noted that garden waste undergoes composting at a specialised facility. The compost is then repurposed on farms, parks, and gardens, contributing to the overall sustainability of the community.
