Block of flats on fire in Wembley, 20 fire engines rush to scene

Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters responded to a flat fire on Elm Road, Wembley tonight.

London Fire Brigade said “Part of the building’s roof is alight. People are advised to avoid the area as crews respond.

“One of the Brigade’s 32 metre turntable ladders is being used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire.

“Control Officers have taken eight calls reporting the fire, with the first received at 1642.”

Park Lane in Wembley is still blocked in both directions due to the incident being attended to by London Fire Brigade. Bus routes 79, 204, and 297 are being diverted (as of 10:30pm).

Firefighters from Wembley, Park Royal, Northolt and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Update: Two of the London Fire Brigades 32 metre turntable ladders were used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire. The fire was under control by 10pm.
