Instances of cash trapping fraud have been reported at the Post Office ATM located in Queensbury Circle Parade, Kenton.
Local officers have identified a worrying trend of fraudulent activity predominantly occurring between 6:00pm and 7:00pm, coinciding with the closing hours of the Post Office which operates from 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
The fraud involves a group of individuals who manipulate the ATM by attaching a strip of tape over the cash dispensing slot. This modification is designed to trap cash during transactions, misleading the ATM into signalling a successful withdrawal.
Unaware of the deceit, customers, assuming a machine malfunction, leave the scene, which then allows the fraudsters to retrieve the trapped cash by removing the tape.
Local police, specifically PCSO Muhammad Nawaz who works in the area, have issued a cautionary message to the community, urging residents to remain vigilant. Harrow residents are advised to inspect the ATM for any unusual devices or signs of tampering before use.
Any suspicious activity or discoveries of potential traps should be reported immediately to ensure community safety and prevent further incidents of this nature.
